The Passion Trilogy with the Fisher Ensemble
Premiere, Los Angeles, 2017
Directed by Ken Cerniglia
Costume Design by Paula D. Davis
The Passion Trilogy was my first over the phone and by e-mail design. About the week before the production they asked me to consult on a design and I quickly shopped and selected items from performer’s wardrobes to complement the production. I worked up a costume plot, the director ordered the dresses, and I was done. I was not even present for the rehearsals or the performance but it looked great!
Monticello Wakes with the Fisher Ensemble
Music and libretto by Garrett Fisher
Directed by Ken Cerniglia
Visual design by Tori Ellison
Associate Costumer, Paula D. Davis
After working with Garrett and Tori on the Bucknell version of the Monticello opera as the designer, they brought me on as associate costumer for the Los Angeles version. Tori Ellison is primarily a sculptor and so they really valued my expertise to pull off her period and fitted designs for the opera.
Ghosts of Monticello, a new opera
Premiere, Bucknell University, 2015
Libretto by Carmen Gillespie
Music by Garrett Fisher
Directed by Emily Martin
Costume Design by Paula D. Davis
I was thrilled to be a part of this unique experience to work on an original production and my first opera. I had begun my research a few months earlier by visiting Monticello. We took a minimalist to this production that was more poetic and suggestive, which, worked well in the architectural setting of one of our oldest halls on campus.
